Stora Enso Oyj: supplies renewable wood materials to the National Museum of Science and Technology of Sweden
Construction of Wisdome Stockholm, a science experiment arena, is now underway. The building of the Swedish National Museum of Science and Technology in Stockholm has an innovative design and will be a reference object for sustainable and climate-smart wood construction. Stora Enso is the main partner and delivers wooden building materials to Wisdome Stockholm.
Wisdome Stockholm is a spectacular 1,325 square meter wooden building with a unique vaulted roof. Inside the building, there is a globe-shaped domed theater 21.6 meters in diameter hosting a 3D cinema with a spherical screen.
“We are a proud supplier of this groundbreaking project. Wisdome Stockholm is pushing the boundaries and showing what is possible with wood as a climate-friendly building material. Through unique projects like this, we can strengthen our customer offering as well as our leadership position in renewable building materials,” says By lyrvallCountry Manager Sweden, Stora Enso.
Stora Enso provides CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) and LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber), which can replace traditional building materials such as steel and concrete. Several digital solutions from Stora Enso in timber construction will also be used in the project, such as the CLT 360+ assembly app, the Wiiste humidity sensors and the Calculatis calculation tool.
Stora Enso is Europe’s largest supplier of wood products and has delivered wood materials to approximately 20,000 construction projects worldwide. In addition to being the only renewable building material, wood construction cuts construction time in half and reduces transport to the site by up to 80%. Stora Enso wood products come from sustainably managed forests.
The groundbreaking ceremony for Wisdome Stockholm took place on February 21 with the Swedish Minister of Culture Jeanette Gustafsdotter with project partners. The inauguration of Wisdome Stockholm is scheduled for 2023.
